Dave grew up skiing the edge deep powder of Scotland. He learned his trade through the BASI system and working at Nevis Range on the West Coast of Scotland. Dave came to New Zealand in 1998 arriving in wanaka with no job and no house. He slept in an old and very cold VW campervan. Pestering the Ski School Director at Cardona on a daily basis for a job, he finally wore him down and Dave was given his first and very ugly Cardrona uniform.
Dave then went through the NZSIA system becoming an Examiner in 2002. He has been on the Technical Committee since 2007 and represented the Ski Division at Interski in Korea. He is also on the current training squad working towards St Anton in 2011. In the NZ off-season Dave has worked in Winterpark Colorado as a Senior Trainer and Private Lesson Instructor.
Dave’s other passion in life is fly fishing. He has endured temperatures from -20c in the freezing Colorado river to a blistering 35c in the saltwaters of Australia in his persute of catching fish on a fly.
