Ellie first stepped onto a snowboard during a high school trip to Whakapapa, through the Otago uni years there were a few trips to TC and Cardies but it wasn’t until 10 years after that first high school trip that she actually learnt to snowboard. (Aka discovered the toe side)
In 2009 Ellie signed up for SBINZ Level 1 and 2 and the Avy 1 certs through Otago Poly at Cardrona. This was meant to be a “gap year” activity from the “real job” in Melbourne working as an exercise physiologist / personal trainer.
It’s been a long “year”…
With a love for being on the mountain and passion for teaching Ellie has taught since then in Japan, USA, Malaysia and of course NZ as an Instructor, Trainer, coach and more recently Examiner.
She now spends most of her time on snow with her crew of Grommies, leading them, and the coaches at Remarks Freeride Academy, hoping to inspire them all to reach their full potential.
In the off season you’ll find her hiking in the mountains (wishing for her snowboard on the down hill bits) or at the beach with her surfboard trying to adopt the local dogs and maybe hang ten on the log. 🤙🏼
