Cross Country Ski Level One Certification

This three-day course is designed for those looking to begin instructing cross country classic and skate skiing and develop their own cross country skiing skills. You must have completed both the classic and skate preparation days before doing the three day certification.

The course covers modules in presenting teaching techniques and the New Zealand progression for first time cross country skier and includes: Flat, downhill and uphill techniques (or gears) in classic and skate skiing techniques, communication styles, skier analysis, error correction drills, and cross country skiing demonstrations.

This certification gives you the ability to teach up to a beginner course in classic or skate technique, however it has a large focus on personal cross country classic and skate skiing development as well. Even if you are not intending to become a cross country ski Instructor, this course will give your personal cross country skiing a boost. Technique is the key and we unlock the secrets for you.

The Cross Country Ski Level one can be achieved by attending the Classic preparation day, the skate preparation day, followed by the three-day block course. Cross Country Ski Level One can fulfil the second discipline requirement for ISIA.

For this course, it may be possible for Examiners to custom design a course to meet your time available. This could be a 2+3 weekender course. The 2+3 is ideal for you if you think you need more time to practice. Alternately, we may be able to offer the qualification spread out over more time in terms of total hours rather than days.

Those also sitting the Level One NZQA Te Mahi Ako Snowsports Instructor (Cross Country skiing) award can have their time cross credited and would need to complete 3 days total focusing on the classic and skate exam.

Please contact NZSIA direct regarding these other options.
